The Story, Part 1:

This story takes place on the asteroid “Vesta”, half way between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.  The story follows a “space western” plot, that starts in a saloon with two people playing poker. Someone who sounds like an old prospector comes running in and tells everyone that “glowstone” has been found on Kalimar.  The ISA directive sends Jon and Buddy to Kalimar and Maura comes along to make sure nothing happens to her ship, the Columbus.

Editorial Comments for Part 1:

Glowstone is the space equivalent of space gold.  It shorly seems that just about everyone on the planet knows of the glowstone strike and of this planet Kalimar.  It is a desert like planet that has two suns with 200 degrees during the day.

Chuck Olsen, who plays Buddy Griff, appears in a Cadbury chocolate commercial.  This is the first episode where this ad appears.

It is an exciting end to the first story.  Is it harder to be exciting with just audio vs. film or video?  I am not sure, but it is an effective ending.

The Story, Part 2:

Buddy, Morua and Travis land on Kalimar to rescue minors.  Just as they land, everyone is attacked by the Night Riders of Kalimar, who previously were believed to be a “mythical legend”.  The shuttle is destroyed while the humans scatter and hide in a cave.  Thinking things cannot get worse, they learn that humans on this planet are getting headaches and then dying mysteriously.  They must find a way to survive until they can be rescued.

Editorial Comments for Part 2:

The commercial version starts with the statement: “And now, Peter Paul Mounds, Almond Joy and Cadbury chocolate bars hope you enjoy Alien Worlds.”

The Night Riders already know about humans and Earth due to previous people that have landed on the planet.  They also have the ability to speak English and tell Maura and Travis that they are using technology “from your galaxy”.  The landing of other earthlings on Kalimar must be a recent thing since space travel is very new for earth.  Additionally, the “faster than light” ships must really be fast to be able to travel between galaxies in a very short time span.
