Super 8
Silent Transfer Sample
Click
on the photo to view a sample standard definition film transfer. The sample is in Microsoft WMV format and
will play using many different popular programs, including Windows Media
Player.
Click
Photo to download. File: 2.5 MB 320x240
pixels – Note: Watch at 100% in your media player or it will stretch and look
blurry.
Notice
how the high contrast images of faces against the bright sky or dark
backgrounds do not cause the image to become washed out. Additionally, our transfer does not use a
“film gate”, allowing us to capture as much of the original image as
possible. Keep in mind that this sample
video was compressed and reduced to
a small picture size of 320x240 to make it internet friendly.
Our
transfers use an oversized aperture that allow capturing as much of the
edge-to-edge film as possible.
Regular 8
Silent Transfer Sample

8mm film. The sample is in Microsoft WMV
format and will play using many different popular programs, including Windows
Media Player.
This is
a near DVD quality 640x480 sample. The
download is quite large.

This is
shot indoors and is from 1962. While the
lighting isn’t the best, it is fun to see this vintage motorized truck that
made a kid really happy at Christmas time.
Super 8
Stereo Sound Transfer Sample
Click
on the photo to view a sample standard definition film transfer from a Super
8mm Sound film. The sample is in
Microsoft WMV format and will play using many different popular programs,
including Windows Media Player.
The
image size has been reduced to a small, “internet friendly”, image size of
320x240 pixes. Much smaller than
standard TV.
Click
Photo to download. File: 4.6 MB 320x240
pixels – Note: Watch at 100% in your media player or it will stretch and look
blurry.
Note,
this is from a commercial stereo test film produced by Elmo to show off their
stereo projectors. The color has started
to turn red, as is common with commercially sold super 8 films from the 70s and
80s because they used cheap film stock which turns red as years pass. For more information, visit our FAQ.
Here is
another, short, sample of a stereo film transfer.

pixels – stereo sound.
Regular
8mm Silent High Definition Transfer Sample
We
offer an option not available anywhere else – entire frame 8mm transfers in
high definition!
High-Definition
images are “wide screen”. Regular 8mm and
Super 8 films contain a viewable “full screen” picture, similar to the shape of
older TVs. On silent 8mm films, the
sprocket holes are quite large.
Typically more picture available in the “sprocket hole area” of the
frame (this depends of the camera used to shoot the film). This area was never expected to be seen when
projecting and the picture in that area is typically not as bright or may
capture lens some flare.
We offer two choices for the transfer of
regular 8mm film. We can either capture the entire wide frame
(16:9), or we can provide a high-definition full-frame (4:3) image. When we crop the image, we capture as much of
the original frame as possible without the sprocket holes, giving you slight
more picture than a standard 4:3 TV image.
Cropping is the recommended method for most films. We offer both so you can choose the transfer
type that you like best.
If you want a standard definition DVD, we
offer this option as a standard anamorphic DVD transfer, playable on standard
DVD players!

full size images, click below. Notice
the high resolution allows you to see the grain in the original frame.
Full Size Frame (JPEG image showing as much as the image as
possible, without the sprocket holes.)
Full Size Cropped (JPEG image showing
the image with the sprocket holes removed.
This is the recommended method most people will prefer.)
Sample HD Un-Cropped Transfer Video
Here
you can see what a standard 8mm movie looks like without being cropped. You can see that you do get more picture,
showing you images never before viewable.
You also get the sprocket holes and writing on the edge of the
film. The original image is no longer
centered on your screen.
Click
Photo to download video. File: 12.5 MB 640x480 pixels – Note:
Watch at 100% in your media player or it will stretch and look blurry.
This is a HD transfer, reduced down to DVD
quality. A full size HD sample would be very large.
Here is
a much longer 8mm sample film we put on YouTube. This is the typical format for older TVs and
preserves the way the film was originally meant to be seen. Please note that YouTube compresses films resulting in a low quality / blocky picture. Refer to our other samples for a better depiction of our transfers.
Here is
a much longer sample wide screen film we put on YouTube. This is the optional un-cropped transfer
which is ideal if you want to see as much of the frame as possible. Please note that YouTube compresses films resulting in a low quality / blocky picture. Refer to our other samples for a better depiction of our transfers.
